Smithtown East seniors earn U.S. Congressional Award Gold Medal

|

Smithtown High School East students Srivaths Ravva and Vishala Swami have earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal — the U.S. Congress’ highest honor for youth.

As recipients, the two seniors will be celebrated at an annual multi-day event in the nation’s capital, where members of the U.S. Congress, public and private partners, and industry and civic leaders recognize the gold medalists in front of their families and peers.

To earn the award, participants need to complete at least 400 hours of voluntary public service, 200 hours of personal development and 200 hours of physical fitness. They also must take a five-day, four-night exploration — thought that was done virtually due to COVID-19.

Ravva also won the President’s Volunteer Service Award Gold Medal, presented by AmeriCorps in recognition of a commitment to strengthen the nation and local communities through volunteer service.
