South Bay Cinemas aiming for a late spring grand reopening

|

The long-awaited return of South Bay Cinemas is just around the corner.

The 54-year-old independent movie theater at 495 W. Montauk Highway in West Babylon closed back in 2016 to undergo a remodeling project.

After a six-year hiatus and silence on its renovation progress, the movie theater posted on Facebook back in December 2021 that construction was back up and running again.

This, South Bay Cinemas reports that they hope to re-open in the next couple of months.

“Just to let all of you know, work is still coming along,” their latest Facebook announcement reads. “The seats have arrived! We are still targeting a late spring opening in time for the summer releases.”

The new and improved South Bay Cinemas will feature five screens, each filled with luxury recliner seating; an all-new interior; snacks; beer; wine; and an all-new party rental program, the team said.

Known for its cheap prices, the movie theater said they plan to keep ticket prices inexpensive.

In about four to six weeks, the movie theater said, owners will make another announcement regarding staffing.

Once operations are in full swing, patrons can buy tickets online.

Birthday party bookings and theater rentals will be determined once the theater locks in on an opening date.
