South Shore Mall News: J.C. Penney is staying; Lord & Taylor set to close

|

Two longtime retailers at Bay Shore’s Westfield South Shore mall released their plans for the future.

J.C. Penney will continue to operate in Bay Shore — after announcing it was going to close the location this summer — while Lord & Taylor filed for bankruptcy and is now shuttering its spot on Sunrise Highway.

Kristen Bennett, a spokeswoman for J.C. Penney, said the following after the company in June set plans to shut down 148 locations in the U.S.

“As J.C. Penney continues to evaluate its retail footprint and make strategic decisions for the future of the business, some stores have been removed from the previously announced list of closures and will remain open,” she said.

For Lord & Taylor, the nation’s oldest department chain, it filed for Chapter 11 this month and is closing 19 locations, including the Bay Shore store.

There is currently a closing sale going on right now. Items purchased at this location, beginning on Aug. 2, are final sale, reads a statement from the company online.

As of now, the other Long Island Lord & Taylor stores in Huntington Station, Manhasset and Garden City will remain open.
