South Shore Shakedown cocktail competition is back for year two

|

The search for the best mixologists on the South Shore is set to commence once again.

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, T.J. Finley’s of Bay Shore will be hosting its second-ever South Shore Shakedown.

The friendly cocktail competition, which sold out in its inaugural year, calls on restaurants and bars to concoct the best drinks. Trophies are given to two teams– one goes to the best drink according to expert judges, while the other is a popular vote selected by the crowd.

Last year,  Tullulah’s had the judge’s best drink, while The Cortland won the people’s choice award.

“There was a lot of energy in the room,” said Drew Dvorkin, the event’s organizer and co-owner of T.J. Finley’s. “It is a friendly competition, but the people involved are very passionate.”

Like in the first year, the bartenders are able to pick between bourbon, tequila, and vodka for their cocktail, which is supplied by the event’s sponsor, Pernod Ricard USA.

From there, the mixologists can add whatever they want to make the best creation.

The event, which runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., costs $30 per person with the first 50 people receiving t-shirts. Included in the ticket price is the ability to sample each cocktail during the night.

All proceeds from the night will be donated to the non-profit Gavin’s Got Heart, an organization that helps children with continental heart defects. Last year, the Shakedown raised $2,000 for the foundation.

“We are so proud to support such a worthy cause,” said Dvorkin.
