South Shore University Hospital debuts $2 million cardiothoracic office

|

After six months of construction, South Shore University Hospital unveiled a brand new, state-of-the-art $2 million cardio and thoracic care office.

The new 2,000-square-foot cardiac ambulatory suite is located on the first floor of the medical center. The new office offers a variety of on-site pre and post-operative care for procedures such as coronary artery bypass, minimally invasive valve repair and replacement, aortic pathology, and catheter-based valve repair and replacement.

The debut marks the 10th anniversary of the hospital’s cardiothoracic program, which started seeing patients on Valentine’s Day 2011.

“This new facility has the capacity to handle 2,000 patient visits a year and gives us the opportunity to not only be the premier cardiothoracic facility on the South Shore, but a one-stop-shop destination for our patients,” said Robert Kalimi, MD, chairman of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at SSUH. “Having three world-class cardiothoracic physicians also allows us to strengthen our relationship with the community by increasing patient access to world-class heart surgeries.”

Over the last decade, Northwell has invested $470.4 million to improve South Shore University Hospital’s infrastructure and strengthen its clinical and technological capabilities.

This includes its latest development of a two-story $71 million Women and Infants Center and a $441 million pavilion that will include private inpatient beds and operating rooms.
