The frontline healthcare workers at Southside Hospital received a much-needed care package on Easter Sunday — Bay Shore’s Southside Bar & Restaurant dropped off 100 turkey dinners.
The Lessing’s Hospitality Group, which owns the bar/restaurant, partnered with Patricia Blair, the founder of The Islips Feed the Southside Hospital Employees Facebook page, for the special delivery.
“A as a community, we have raised money and been able to provide 200 meals a day to the hospital,” said Blair, who’s raised over $22,000 through her page for Southside Hospital.
She contacted the Lessing’s a week ago in regards to helping feed those working on the hospital floors on Easter.
“Seeing the meal delivered to the hospital emergency department by Lessing’s and being met by the Easter Bunny, was love in motion,” said Blair. “We are eternally grateful for our healthcare workers and so thankful for the generosity of Lessing’s Hospitality.”
The Lessing’s were beyond eager to donate.
“I felt a great privilege to be able to contribute my tiny part in honoring our health care professionals,” said Mark Lessing, vice president of restaurants at the Lessing’s Hospitality Group. “What amazed me most was there overwhelming positive spirit.”
This isn’t the first time the Lessing’s have chipped in during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recently, the hospitality group, which also operates Blaze Pizza locations in Bay Shore and West Babylon, donated 50 large pizzas to Southside Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.
“Many of us have friends and family on the frontline,” said Jennifer Cantin, Lessing’s director of marketing. “I am lucky enough to work for a company that feeds people and in good times and bad always steps up to the plate to do what’s needed.”
