Southside Hospital launches bariatric surgery program in Bay Shore

|

Southside Hospital in Bay Shore is getting in on the bariatric surgery game, Northwell Health announced this week.

The team is being led by three: Dr. Dominick Gadaleta, MD, Southside’s chair of surgery, Dr. David Pechman and Dr. Andrew Bates.

The surgeons will be using Southside’s two Da Vinci Xi robots to perform laparoscopic bariatric procedures, which allow for quicker recovery times and very small incisions, according to the Northwell.

Their offices are also located at 250 East Main Street in Bay Shore.

In addition to well-known bariatric procedures such as the gastric sleeve and gastric bypass, Southside patients, if eligible, may also undergo advanced endoscopic suturing techniques for procedures requiring revision.

“These types of surgeries use a small scope inserted into a patient’s mouth as an even more minimally-invasive approach to bariatric surgery,” the announcement reads.

“When I became Southside’s chairman of surgery in 2019, my goal was to not only maintain the hospital’s high-quality surgical standards but to also meet the community’s demand for more surgical options to be provided in their area,” Dr. Gadaleta said in a statement. “I am grateful to Southside’s leadership for investing in this program and allowing Dr. Pechman, Dr. Bates and I to help patients achieve a healthier life through bariatric surgery.”
