Greater Moriches News Writing Internship


Intern with and learn how to report local news from experts in the field.

The Greater-brand news sites were viewed over 3 million times in 2020 are listed with major search engines and Google News.

Interns will have the opportunity to cover local news from town board meetings to beach parties. While with us, students will learn how to find and research story ideas, conduct interviews and take photos and video for a variety of stories in various towns. In addition, interns will learn details of online writing including WordPress, SEO, time management and social media.

This is an unpaid internship that can be done for academic credit.

We require 120 hours to complete this program. During those hours you will do the following:

-Write stories each week for publication to be submitted to the site, reviewed by editors prior to publishing.

-Learn how to conduct interviews with professionals from town officials to local restaurateurs

-Create photo-based stories, with your own photos.

-Learn how to use social media to share stories using basic social media like Facebook and Twitter.

There will be weekly assignments to complete these goals.


-Knowledge of AP Style
-Knowledge of WordPress or another CMS
-Strong communication skills
-Ability to work independently
-Computer with internet connection
-Your own transportation
