Support the fight against blood cancers while cheering on one local student’s fundraising campaign on Sunday, March 15, at 2 Spring in Oyster Bay.
As part of the Student Visionaries of the Year program hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a Long Island team led by student candidate Joy Markowski is raising money to help advance research and patient support for people battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
“This is a fine dining event at 2 Spring in Oyster Boy,” said Joy, a student at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington. “The menu is curated to a blood cancer theme and 30 percent of the profits go straight to our fundraising goals.
“Our team, the Fighting Friars is led by three high school juniors for our goal of 100,000 dollars.”
The Student Visionaries of the Year campaign is a nationwide leadership and philanthropy program that challenges high school students to spend seven weeks building teams, hosting events and raising funds for blood cancer research and patient services.
The candidate whose team raises the most funds during the campaign earns the title of Student Visionary of the Year.
Supporters can donate online, share the campaign or help spread the word as local students work toward the goal of a world without blood cancers. All proceeds benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to fund lifesaving research, provide education and support for patients and families, and advocate for better access to care.
