The PAPD Twins and MTA NY Express will return to the diamond this month for their second annual “Heroes on the Diamond” charity softball game, raising money to support the family of a police officer who died by suicide.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 16, at Fairfield Properties Ballpark, home of the Long Island Ducks, in Central Islip.
Proceeds from the event will be distributed through Beyond the Badge NY, which will facilitate the donation to the officer’s family. Organizers said the effort is intended not only to provide financial support, but also to raise awareness about mental health within the law enforcement community and encourage officers to seek help when they need it.
“While no donation can ease the pain of such a profound loss, it is our hope that this contribution provides meaningful support and serves as a reminder that this family is not alone,” organizers said in a statement. “The law enforcement community stands united in honoring their loved one’s service, remembering their legacy and supporting those they left behind.”
Doors open at 11:15 a.m., followed by a pregame ceremony at 11:30 a.m. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
Tickets are $25 and include admission to the charity softball game, as well as a ticket to the Long Island Ducks’ Aug. 25 home game against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars. Children 3 and younger will be admitted free.
