St. Joseph’s College has just bean named among the best colleges in the country for United States service members and their families.

St. Joseph’s, which has campuses in Patchogue and Brooklyn, was the only private school in New York to receive the 2020 Military Friendly Gold designation.

“The SJC community is beyond proud of our veteran and military students for all they have accomplished in life before they even walk through our doors,” said the school’s president, Donald Boomgaarden. “We are committed to providing them with the best services to help them excel in this next chapter of their lives.”

Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey completed by the school, according to an SJC announcement.

Categories for evaluation include military student support and retention; academic policies and compliance; admissions and orientation; culture and commitment; financial aid and assistance; and graduation and career outcomes, the announcement reads.

More than 1,000 schools participated in the 2020-2021 survey.

“We are honored to be awarded the Military Friendly Gold designation,” said Erin D’Eletto, SJC’s director of military and veterans services. “As our military-affiliated students enhance our college community in countless ways, we are privileged to assist them in their transition from military to civilian life, and to support their personal, academic and professional success.”
