St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Bayport-Blue Point is postponed

|

Bayport-Blue Point’s huge St. Patrick’s Day Parade is officially postponed, parade Chairperson Lenore Ringer-Prezioso confirmed to GreaterSayville.com.

Traditionally held the Sunday morning before St. Patrick’s Day, the parade has now been cancelled or put off for two straight years due to health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ringer-Prezioso said parade organizers are still holding out hope of putting on this year’s parade “some time before next March.”

“We’re looking at doing something at a later date,” she said. “But right now, it’s just under discussion.”

One of the main hurdles in scheduling a parade — aside from the pandemic — is gaining approval on parade permits from Islip and Brookhaven towns, since the parade route is in both. And as of now, both towns are not accepting parade permit applications until April, Singer-Prezioso said.

This year’s — and last year’s event — would have been the 30th St. Patrick’s Day Parade for Bayport-Blue Point. Rain caused a two-week delay in 2019 before the parade took off under a beautiful sunny sky on March 24.

Other popular St. Patrick’s Day parades have also been cancelled or postponed, including the one in Patchogue, where organizers moved their event to September.
