Police are seeking information from the public regarding an emaciated Rhodesian Ridgeback found in Mastic last month later died from its condition.
According to Suffolk County police, a good Samaritan discovered the severely underweight dog on July 19 and brought it to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. Despite emergency care, the dog died during surgery.
Photos released by authorities show the dog’s ribs and spine visibly protruding.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and detectives from the District Attorney’s Office Biological, Environmental and Animal Safety Team (BEAST) are investigating. A cash reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
