The stars were out for opening night at Stony Brook Film Festival, now in it’s 30th year at Staller Center for the Arts, located on the university campus.
The veritable marquee included names such as Long Island’s own Ralph Macchio, who has reprised his Karate Kid (1984) role as Daniel Larusso in the highly touted Karate Kid: Legends, which has already raked in over $100 million at box offices in the U.S. and beyond.
“The responses for both the short film and the feature opening night films were over the top and it was truly an exciting way to kick off our 30th anniversary,” said Alan Inkles, the Staller Center director. “It was also great to have Ralph Macchio back for our anniversary season as he has had three films in the festival over the years.
“We expect more special guests throughout the festival as we celebrate this great milestone.”
Also on hand was RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr., in the smash-hit Breaking Bad television series on AMC, and others.
Mitte co-wrote, directed and stars in the feature film Westhampton, which airs Saturday, July 19, at Staller.

After the opening night screenings, which included the short Hearts of Stone and the feature The Ties That Bind Us, the actors, producers, directors and festival attendees had the opportunity to attend the much-anticipated after party at Elaine’s Restaurant and Bar in E. Setauket.
