Stony Brook man drowns in backyard pool.

Anthony Izzo was pulled from the pool just before 8 p.m. and later pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital

A 75-year-old Stony Brook man drowned in his backyard pool Friday evening, police said.

Suffolk Police responded to Anthony Izzo’s home at 15 Malverne Lane about 7:45 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that he had been found unresponsive in the pool.

Officers and Stony Brook Fire Department members pulled Izzo from the water and performed CPR at the scene.

Izzo was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Suffolk Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the incident — a standard procedure in unattended deaths — but police said they believe the drowning is non-criminal in nature.

The 911 call came just as thunderstorms and heavy winds were rolling across the Stony Brook area Friday evening. Cops did not say if the incident was related to the weather, but note that the cause of the man’s drowning is under investigation.
