Suffolk DA: Islip Terrace man had enough fentanyl to kill 113,000 people

More than eight ounces of fentanyl — enough to kill over 113,000 people — was allegedly found at the home of an Islip Terrace man now facing a bevy of drug and child endangerment charges, prosecutors said.

Quon Williams, 39, was indicted on two counts of first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and several related charges following a raid at his home that authorities say uncovered fentanyl, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash — all while three young children were living inside.

Williams pleaded not guilty on Monday to all of the charges. He was arraigned in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead on the most serious charges.

“This is a deeply troubling case,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement. “These allegations highlight a situation where substantial quantities of deadly narcotics were allegedly found in a home where three young children lived.”

Williams and his girlfriend, Keirsten Escobar, 31, who also lived at the Islip Terrace residence, were both charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, said authorities, who noted that the kids were ages 1, 5 and 10.

Tierney said Suffolk County Police executed a court-authorized search warrant at the couple’s home on May 28. As officers approached, they reported hearing the sound of glass shattering at the rear of the house, he said.

Inside, police allegedly found Williams bleeding from his hand in the 1-year-old’s bedroom, where a window had just been broken, authorities said. In the backyard, directly beneath the shattered window, officers said they found a kilo press — a device commonly used to compress powdered drugs into bricks for street-level distribution.

Inside the press, authorities said, was the fentanyl.

Additionally, a kilogram of cocaine was allegedly recovered from Williams’ bedroom, and prosecutors said his fingerprints were found on the bag that held the drugs. Authorities also reported seizing about $14,000 in cash, hypodermic needles, digital scales and other packaging materials used in drug distribution.

Facing up to 30 years in prison

Williams was arraigned Monday before Acting County Court Judge James McDonaugh on a seven-count indictment that includes two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, and two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia, in addition to the three misdemeanor child endangerment charges.

The defendant was ordered held on $1 million cash bail, $2 million bond, or $10 million partially secured bond. He is due back in court July 15. If convicted on the top charge, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

Escobar is expected to be arraigned June 24 before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei on the child endangerment charges.
