Suffolk high school football playoff brackets revealed; post-season begins Friday

|

The governing body for interscholastic athletics in Suffolk County has announced the playoff brackets for the county’s high school football championships.

Section XI said the post-season will kick off Friday and continue into Saturday with a full slate of quarterfinal matchups featuring the 32 best teams in the county.

Three schools enter the playoffs undefeated: East Islip (8-0) in Division II, Sayville (8-0) in Division III, and Bayport-Blue Point (8-0) in Division IV.

East Islip has steamrolled its competition, scoring over 40 points in six of its wins and never scoring less than 33. No. 1 East Islip’s quarter-final matchup is at home against longtime rival, No. 8 Bellport (4-4), Friday at 6 p.m. The two schools squared off last Saturday in Bellport, with East Islip victorious in a 40-14 romp.

No. 1 Sayville hosts No. 8 Eastport-South Manor (3-5) Friday at 6 p.m. The Golden Flashes have outscored their opponents a combined 353-85, scoring over 40 points in six games.

Half Hollow Hills West (7-1), the No. 2 seed in Division III, has outscored its opponents 374-110. Only Sayville kept Hills West under 45 — a 28-21 home win for the Golden Flashes on Oct. 19. Hills West opens the playoffs at home against No. 7 East Hampton/Bridgehampton/Pierson (5-3) Saturday at 1 p.m.

In Division IV, No. 1 Bayport-Blue Point hosts No. 8 Greenport-Southold-Mattituck (4-4) on Friday at 6 p.m. The Phantoms have held their opponents to 10 points or less in each of their eight games.

Perennial powerhouse William Floyd (7-1) is the No. 1 seed in Suffolk’s Division I. The Colonials, who held off Longwood (7-1) and Ward Melville (7-1) for the division’s top seed, square off at home, Saturday at noon, against Sachem East (3-5), which is coming off a bye week of sorts due to Patchogue-Medford forfeiting its Friday night game against the Arrows for disciplinary reasons.
