Suffolk County police are investigating an incident involving a Commack High School football player and an assistant coach during practice Wednesday.
The 16-year-old player’s parents told News 12 Long Island that the assistant coach struck their son in the face with a helmet during practice Aug. 26.
The player was taken to a hospital and needed stitches, according to News 12 reporter Kevin Vesey.
No arrests have been made.
Suffolk police previously confirmed to Greater Long Island that they are investigating an incident at Commack High School involving a football player and coach, but have not released additional details or identified either person.
The incident comes as Commack prepares for the upcoming high school football season. The varsity and JV teams began practice last week.
Commack is scheduled to open its varsity season Sept. 10 at Copiague.
The Commack School District has not publicly released any information about the incident. Greater Long Island reached out to the district for comment but has not heard back.
Section XI officials also told Greater Long Island they do not have any additional information.
