Head to Painters’ Restaurant in a Buick or minivan Sunday, and maybe leave on a Harley.
All in the memory — and for the family — of Roland Barry Sr. of North Patchogue, who died from pancreatic cancer on Sept. 16. He was 62.
As part of ongoing fundraising efforts to help the reeling family deal with medical bills, Painters’ in Brookhaven is hosting a 2 p.m. event where the family will be raffling off Barry’s beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle to one lucky contributor.
His daughter-in-law, Jenn Barry of Patchogue Village, is organizing the event.
The family had first tried to sell the bike, but that didn’t work.
Then came Jenn Barry‘s idea for a raffle.
She said that when she and her husband, Roland Barry Jr., look at the Harley, they can’t help but think of their dad riding it around town as a younger man, with his high school sweetheart behind him.
“It would be nice to see it go to another pair of high school sweethearts,” Jenn Barry said. “My husband rode it once more after his father passed away and it made me see a connection between them that I didn’t see before.
“I just hope it brings the next owner happiness.”
Tickets can be purchased at the door at $40 each, or three tickets for $100. There will be face painting for the kids and free food for everyone in attendance.
And if you’re feeling lucky, throw a leather jacket in the back of that minivan.
