Swedish woman going to prison for trying to bring 10 kilos of cocaine into Suffolk

Sweden woman sentenced for cocaine charges.

Amanda Abrahamsson walked into a Patchogue Walgreens 20 months ago expecting to simply grab a FedEx pickup.

She left in handcuffs.

The 26-year-old Swedish national who tried to smuggle 10 kilograms of cocaine into Suffolk County through FedEx in September 2024 was sentenced Friday to 10 years behind bars. After that, she’ll be deported to Sweden, prosecutors said.

Abrahamsson pleaded guilty in April to first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Her brazen smuggling attempt unraveled, Suffolk District Attorney Raymond Tierney said, when Abrahamsson walked into the Patchogue Walgreens in on Sept. 3, 2024, to pick up two packages from an undercover officer.

“This defendant came from outside of Suffolk County specifically to commit these crimes, believing she could slip in and out unnoticed,” Tierney said. “She clearly underestimated the capability of the Suffolk County Police Department and our partners at Homeland Security investigations.”

The investigation began in August 2024 when two packages stuffed with individually wrapped kilograms of cocaine were shipped from California to a FedEx location in Bohemia. Law enforcement flagged and intercepted the packages at a FedEx facility.

Abrahamsson didn’t know her shipment had been compromised, and showed at the FedEx location asking about the packages. She also called FedEx to track them, leaving a callback number that investigators used to set their trap.

Authorities arranged for the packages to be picked up at the Patchogue Walgreens. When Abrahamsson arrived and took possession, officers moved in and she was arrested.

She was carrying two cell phones — one of which she’d used to communicate with both FedEx and, unbeknownst to her, law enforcement during the sting.

After her arrest, Abrahamsson provided investigators with a written confession admitting her role in the drug distribution scheme.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer to deport her to Sweden once she completes her prison sentence.
