The ever-expanding, and very popular, T.O.A. Asian Fusion has just quietly expanded into East Islip.
The sign is up, the lot is full — and the short-lived Ushin House has been taken over, it appears. This marks five locations for T.O.A. The others are in Huntington, Melville, Farmingdale and Sayville.
T.O.A., which has in the past been recognized by OpenTable for offering top Asian food locally, also won two Asian Fusion categories in the 2024 GLI Foodie Awards, capturing Foodies for Best Dragon Roll and Best Mongolian Beef.
In a 2016 interview with Long Islander News, T.O.A. owner Evan Chen discussed the fusion of various Asian cuisines at T.O.A., while taking a moment to boast about the drinks as well:
“We have innovated not just an extensive food menu, but one of the most crafty cocktail menus, all while using nothing but fresh ingredients,” said Chen.
In and out
Last July, Ushin House, which was a Japanese restaurant, filled the vacant structure at 166 W. Main Street after H2O Seafood & Sushi closed in the wake of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and never reopened.
After a long run, the Beachtree Café closed for good at that same location in early 2016. By the end of that year, H2O opened and quickly gained a foothold as a go-to spot for a quality dining experience in the East Islip and Islip areas.
The H2O in Smithtown continues to operate.
