Taco Bell planned for Sunshine Square in Medford

|

A new Taco Bell could soon rise at Sunshine Square in Medford, where a vacant bank building now stands.

The Brookhaven Town Board is scheduled to hold a public hearing on Thursday to review a proposal to demolish the existing bank structure and construct a 2,118-square-foot “major restaurant with a drive-thru” and outdoor seating, according to the application on file.

Brookhaven Town Councilman Michael Loguercio said he welcomes the addition to the busy hub on the eastern side of Medford.

“Once again we are excited to welcome another well-known business in the food industry to the community, and wish them tremendous success at this new location!” Loguercio told Greater Long Island.

The project site is at 700 Sills Road, within the shopping center anchored by Stop & Shop and Planet Fitness. The new fast-food restaurant would sit on the plaza’s north end, near the newly opened IHOP and the recently renovated Friendly’s.

The applicant is seeking two special permits: one to operate a major restaurant within a commercial center, and another to allow outdoor seating as an accessory use.

If approved, construction is estimated to cost about $1.5 million and take roughly four months to complete. The application was originally filed with the town in August 2024.

The project would bring a Taco Bell with drive-thru service to one of Medford’s busiest retail hubs.
