After more than 30 years in Port Jefferson Station, Station Coffee has a new home — and it’s already drawing lines.
The beloved family-run diner quietly opened in Sound Beach last week, taking over the former George’s Café at 175 Sound Beach Blvd.
Owner John Volikas said the response so far has been everything they hoped for.
“It’s been great, busy lines,” he said. “Everyone is so welcoming here.”
The move comes as new apartments are planned for the Port Jefferson Station shopping center that once housed Family Dollar, Ideal Supermarket and the post office.
The Volikas family decided it was the right time for a fresh start — without changing what’s always made Station Coffee feel like home.
“It’s still the same great service,” said Christine Volikas, who opened the original spot with her husband back in 1992.
The new location carries over the same old-school diner charm: cozy booths, a large counter overlooking the open kitchen, and a wall of train-themed photos that nod to the café’s name.
There are upgrades, too — more tables, bigger windows, and plenty of natural light.
But the heart of Station Coffee remains unchanged. Loyal patrons still come in for the eggs, pancakes, French toast and — if they’re lucky — a plate of chicken francese.
And while the menu is the same for now, John Volikas teased that some new additions could be on the way once they’re fully settled in.
