An 18-year-old Tesla driver from Huntington Station was arrested days after a Saturday afternoon road rage incident in Melville, Suffolk County police said.
According to police, Jayson Otero-Savage was driving a 2022 Tesla T3 southbound on Walt Whitman Road, near the Northern Parkway entrance ramp, when he cut in front of a 2017 Chevrolet Impala and stopped short at around 2:20 p.m.
After this, Otero-Savage and two unnamed passengers exited the Tesla, with one of them looking on as Otero-Savage and the other passenger punched and kicked the Chevrolet, “causing extensive damage,” Suffolk police said.
The three then allegedly hopped back into the Tesla and fled southbound.
SCPD Second Squad detectives investigated the incident and later arrested Otero-Savage on Tuesday, police said. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, a Class D felony, and was being held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
