Thai flavors land on Fire Island with Samui Thai in Ocean Bay Park

|

Thai food has officially arrived on Fire Island.

Samui Thai has opened in Ocean Bay Park, offering dishes you won’t find anywhere else on the island.

Owner Angie Mapaisarnsin, originally from Thailand, has spent nearly 30 years running restaurants across the globe, including in Costa Rica and Brooklyn, before settling on Fire Island this summer.

“We do authentic Thai food,” Mapaisarnsin told Greater Long Island.

She said it was her business partner — a longtime Fire Island homeowner — who first floated the idea.

“He said that we needed to bring Thai food here because there’s nothing like it,” she said. “It’s pretty repetitive choices.”

The pair started searching for a location three seasons ago, but nothing clicked until last December, when they found a former deli at 44 Bayview Walk.

“I took everything out,” Mapaisarnsin said. “Changed the seating areas, decorated — and it’s beautiful.”

On the menu, the short rib curry has become an instant bestseller, often selling out daily. Another favorite: the lobster pad Thai.
