One of Long Island’s own has earned national recognition — and it’s all thanks to its devoted pizza fans.
The Pizzeria, a fast-growing pizzeria started by brothers Dan and Paul Saccoccio and their childhood friend Cliff Weinstein, was just named among DoorDash’s top pizzerias in its new “Battle of the Slices 2025” list.
The first-ever ranking — released during National Pizza Month — was based on thousands of DoorDash customer ratings and reviews collected from January through September 2025. Only small, local shops with fewer than 10 locations and at least 1,000 reviews were considered.
“These 50 pizzerias aren’t just places to grab a slice: they’re neighborhood anchors, family traditions, and entrepreneurial success stories,” said Ruth Isenstadt, Head of U.S. Restaurants at DoorDash.
A Long Island success story
Founded in 2020 inside the Smith Haven Mall food court, The Pizzeria has quickly grown into one of Long Island’s most beloved names in pizza. The team now operates seven locations — in Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, Islip, Bayport, Babylon, Smithtown and the original Lake Grove — with another set to open soon in Yaphank.
“Being included on DoorDash’s list for National Pizza Month is something we’re really proud of,” said co-founder Dan Saccoccio. “It reflects the people who come through our doors every day and the team that shows up with care and consistency. The Pizzeria has always been about connection and community first, and this recognition is really a shared one with everyone who makes that possible.”
DoorDash’s list highlights standout pizzerias from five pizza powerhouse states — California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, and New York — chosen for their local followings and high customer satisfaction.
