The $12.5M upgrade to Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital is complete

|

The work began in July of 2022 in Valley Stream.

And now Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital has just unveiled a newly constructed entrance, facade and lobby at 900 Franklin Avenue, Northwell Health announced Tuesday.

The entire project cost $12.5 million.

This project is just another example of how we are providing the best possible experience for our
community,” said Riza Cioku, associate executive director, hospital operations, LIJ Valley Stream Hospital. “Aside from the beautiful aesthetic, the new construction creates a more convenient arrival and departure from the hospital for our patients and visitors.”

The hospital’s driveway has also been expanded for a more efficient flow of traffic.

The facade

The new facade has modern aluminum canopies that extend from the hospital’s front entrance. The canopies provide coverage for patients and visitors when they enter the hospital during inclement weather and when using valet service. The coverage also extends to the safe walking ramp at both entrances. The façade was created with thousands of metal panels and terracotta tiles.

The lobby

The hospital also redesigned a 3,000-square-foot lobby, with the information desk now centrally located. LIJ Valley Stream’s patient experience team will be available to greet patients and visitors and help guide them to their destination within the hospital.

A redesigned security station is also located in the lobby to provide a safe and secure environment for anyone entering the facility. The lobby has a new heating and cooling unit throughout the space, new lighting, furniture and artwork.

The entrance

The larger driveway now has one lane dedicated to valet service and a second lane available for passthrough traffic. A drainage system was also installed in the driveway.

New windows have also been installed in two patient units on the north side of the hospital. The windows are double pane and provide better climate control inside patient rooms. LIJ Valley Stream has also installed new building signage that will identify the facility as an orthopedic center.

“Today marks the completion of the hospital façade and the grand opening of our hospital lobby,” said Jason Tan, RN, executive director of LIJ Valley Stream Hospital. “This symbolizes a new face to our community, a beacon of hope and healing, and a promise to deliver high quality and compassionate care consistently.”

LIJ Valley Stream is a 284-bed, full-service community hospital primarily caring for patients in Nassau County and southeastern Queens.
