Editor’s note: Besito will be opening sometime this summer. The headline has been updated to reflect this change.
Original post: The new Besito Mexican restaurant that’s moving into the former Roots Bistro Gourmand spot at 399 Montauk Highway should be open in May.
Besito Mexican, which has two other Long Island locations in Huntington and Roslyn, has garnered national attention for its food and service.
Most recently, they landed on the “100 Best Restaurants In America,” according to OpenTable.
Their success comes under co-owner, founder, and Long Island native John Tunney, who traveled and studied in Mexico before opening the first Besito restaurant.
Tunney has been involved in the culinary industry since he was 14, and had been involved in other ventures, such as bringing American Burger Company to Huntington.
Now, in 2017, his Mexican cuisine chain has been in steady growth mode, says Huntington manager Heidi Hayriye Sungun.
“We are opening a new location, because we are a growing company,” said Sungun.
She predicted on April 24 that the new Besito would be open within 30 days.
