Barnes & Noble will open a new bookstore in Huntington on Wednesday, April 2, marking a return to the area after closing its East Northport location.

Located at 301 Walt Whitman Road, across from Walt Whitman Shops, the new store occupies the former Johnson Fitness & Wellness space.

Doors open at 9 a.m., with bestselling romance author Tessa Bailey—known for the Bellinger Sisters series—on hand for a ribbon-cutting and book signing of her latest release, Dream Girl Drama.

The store features Barnes & Noble’s updated design, offering a wide selection of books, toys, games and gifts, along with a refreshed B&N Café, a press announcement reads.

“While we were saddened to leave East Northport, we could not be happier with the space we have found in Huntington,” said the Barnes & Noble CEO, James Daunt. “Here we bring the community a completely updated Barnes & Noble and, fittingly, do so right next to the birthplace of one of the greatest American poets.”

The opening comes amid a growth period for the bookseller, which plans to launch more than 60 new stores nationwide in 2025.

Last year, the company opened more locations than it had in the entire decade from 2009 to 2019.

The Huntington store is one of four Barnes & Noble openings in April, joining new locations in Florida, Illinois, and Nebraska.

“We are so excited to bring Barnes & Noble back to the community of Huntington and surrounding areas,” said the new store’s manager, Kyle Goehle. “I can’t wait for all the new memories our customers will make with our brand-new bookstore and café.”
