The first Babylon Block Party of 2019 is this week, here’s what to know

|

The unofficial start to summer kicks off this Thursday with the first Babylon Block Party of 2019.

The afternoon street festival, which is run by the Babylon Chamber of Commerce, will feature outdoor dining, live music, vendors, bouncy houses, and food trucks from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in downtown Babylon Village.

Deer Park Avenue from Park Avenue to Montauk Highway will be blocked off for the fair, along with north of Montauk Highway to the Babylon Carriage House on Fire Island Avenue. The street closings will begin around 4 p.m.

“After a successful first year, we are so excited about this year’s Block Parties,” said the president of the Babylon Chamber of Commerce, Kelly Peckholdt.

In addition to starting the festivals earlier in the calendar and adding a third date, one of the biggest changes is opening the festival from Rail Road Avenue to Park Avenue.

“We are going to fill the space with even more vendors and food trucks,” said Peckholdt. And, according to the chamber, all the vendors they select are chosen with a keen eye to not conflict with any Babylon businesses.

Live musical performances will be prevalent across the downtown. During the night, there will be bands playing in front of The Brixton, Del Fuego, Mary Carroll’s, and Lily Flanagan’s Pub.
