The first-ever ‘Winter on the Bay’ festival planned for Tanner Park in Copiague

|

A Winter Wonderland is coming to the South Shore for the holiday season.

The people who set up  Fall on the Bay in Copiague have created an all-new event called Winter on the Bay that will run the two weekends before Christmas.

The event, held at Tanner Park Beach, is run by Festivals on the Bay, which is sponsored by Katch Restaurant.

“It’s a way to bring the community together to enjoy incredible holiday shopping from local vendors,” said Jamie Alfalla, an event organizer. “We’re going to have a ton of fun food vendors and everyone is going to do something signature and special.”

Holiday shopping will be a big part of the festival, no matter the weather those weekends.

“We are going to have the holiday market that is massive and lighted in a heated tent structure that can withstand 70 MPH winds,” Alfalla said.

Between 30 and 40 local vendors will set up inside the market.

“Hopefully it will be a place where people can do holiday shopping for fair prices,”said Alfalla.

In addition to shopping, drinking and eating, there are other holiday-themed activities planned, such as ice carving, make-your-own ornament stations and holiday photography.

And, there will be an ice skating rink.

“The ice skating rink is going to be positioned so you skate and see the water,” described Melissa Fernandez, another Winter on the Bay organizer.

Then there’s the Ugly Sweater Jingle and Mingle, where adults can hang out and enjoy each other’s company.

“While the kids play the adults can mingle and talk,” said Fernandez.
