The Fresh Market closes its lone Long Island location, in Smithtown

|

The Fresh Market has officially closed its doors in Smithtown.

The high-end grocer, located at 138 E. Main St. in the Branch Plaza, notified customers of the closure via email last month.

“This was not an easy decision to make, and we are incredibly grateful for your support and patronage over the years,” the message read. “We will miss being a part of your everyday and being a part of your wonderful community.”

The Smithtown store opened in 2015 and occupied a 24,099-square-foot space. It became the chain’s sole Long Island outpost after its Woodbury location shut down in 2017, according to Newsday.

The Fresh Market, which launched in 1982, operates more than 160 stores across 22 states. The only remaining locations in New York are in Latham, Saratoga Springs, and Scarsdale.
