The Lessing’s will be bringing a new concept to Southside spot in Bay Shore

|

Southside Bar & Restaurant as we’ve known it has just poured its last drink and served up its last burger in downtown Bay Shore.

But Southside owners Lessing’s Hospitality Group just issued a statement saying the iconic building and property is being reimagined, and not at all abandoned. Lessing’s will launch a new concept this fall at the 5 Third Avenue address, where drinks have been served since Prohibition.

South Shore locals might also remember the spot as Schillers, the well-known neighborhood bar with a pool table, cold beer and classic bar food.

As for the new concept, Michael Lessing Jr., area operations manager for the Lessing’s Restaurant Division, said “We want to create a lively, yet intimate vibe where people can unwind with friends or let loose and dance all night, while collectively enjoying the sense of togetherness we all craved during the pandemic.”

The new restaurant is scheduled to open this fall.

No other details have yet been released, but the announcement promises “creative drinks, comforting food, and upbeat music.”
