The ‘official cookie of Broadway’ set to make its Long Island debut

|

Schmackary’s — a cult-favorite cookie company that started in NYC’s Theater District in 2012 — is bringing its show-stopping sweets to Long Island for the very first time, according to a press announcement.

The Island outpost for Schmackary’s is all set to open at 1044 Willis Avenue in Albertson on Friday, May 31, with more on the way for Nassau and Suffolk.

“We’ve been working on bringing Schmackary’s to Long Island for over a year and I am so excited it’s finally a reality,” said franchise owner Brenda Grayson, a native of Manhasset Hills. “I can’t wait to extend the Schmackary’s family and bring more sweetness to the neighborhood.”

The shop will be located in the Albertson shopping center, just minutes from where Grayson grew up.

It marks the brand’s fourth location overall and its first on Long Island.

How it happened

Grayson, who now lives in Old Brookville, has long been a fan of Schmackary’s — the quirky, actor-founded cookie shop that’s built a devoted following for its outrageously creative flavors and high-energy vibe.

Founded by actor-turned-baker Zachary “Schmackary” Schmahl, the flagship store opened in the heart of Manhattan’s Theater District and quickly became a sensation with Broadway performers and tourists alike, Schmackary’s cookies are now a staple at venues across NYC and have been featured on TV shows, award lists, and media outlets around the country, according to the announcement and several media reports.

When the company began franchising last year, Grayson saw an opportunity.

“I used to go to this shopping center all the time,” she said of the Albertson location. “This felt like the perfect place to start.”

Grayson has six franchise agreements in place across Nassau and Suffolk counties — but the focus for now is all on Albertson.

If you go

When the doors open May 31, visitors can expect a cookie counter packed with the brand’s bestsellers — such as the signature Funfetti, Maple Bacon, Churro and Cookies & Cream — seasonal favorites and rotating specials.

The shop will also serve customizable cookie ice cream sandwiches, pastries and custom cakes.

It’s designed to be a grab-and-go spot with plenty of personality — think colorful décor, a Broadway-inspired playlist and a warm welcome from the cookie-loving team behind the counter.

And if you can’t wait for opening day, there’s a VIP preview happening May 29, along with other events and surprises planned for opening week, the announcement rads.

“It’s all about bringing people joy,” Grayson said. “And what better way to do that than with cookies?”
