Another one bites the dust at the Sun-Vet Mall.
Aegean Pizza & Italian Restaurant, one of the few remaining businesses at the Sun-Vet Mall in Holbrook, announced on Facebook it will be closing next month after operating nearly 50 years.
“We live in extraordinary times, which have made it impossible for us to keep Aegean’s doors open, and keep providing the same high quality of serving that you became familiar with over the last five decades,” the post reads. (See the full post below.)
The Aegean Pizza closure delivers another crushing blow to the beleaguered Sun-Vet Mall. The shopping center has sustained some big hits in recent years, losing anchor stores Toys “R” Us, Payless Shoes and Pathmark, A.C. Moore, among others.
The sad news traveled fast with hundreds of comments and shares on the Aegean Pizza closure post. Loyal customers shared their favorites memories and dishes of the popular restaurant that opened in 1974.
“You were part of my childhood, along with Pathmark and Candy Corner,” wrote commenter Hayley Caro. “Many memories grabbing a slice after food shopping. Always reminds me of my dad also, who has since passed. Best of luck and thank you for serving the community all these years!”
The pizzeria’s last day will be Aug. 6.
The owners finished their post by giving one big thank you to all the supporters who have frequented their restaurant all these years.
“A heartfelt thank you from John and Harry, and all of Aegean’s current staff. The heartfelt and sincere thank you is also shared by Aegean’s founder and originally owner, Louie, who has retired in Greece.”
