This past Saturday marked the 27th annual Race for MPS hosted by the Post Office Café, and there were nearly 800 racers.
And they raised the most-ever funds in the race’s history.
“Coolest part about the race was that we had a few fewer runners this year due to the weather, but we raised a monumental $38,000,” said Mike Lessing Jr., general manager of Post Office Cafe.”Makes me smile.”
All proceeds go to the nonprofit MPS Society.
MPS, or Mucopolysaccharidoses, is an often fatal genetic disease in children which prevents the production of specific enzymes that help strengthen the body.
The race, which takes runners through the village to the docks and back, finishes at the Post Office where there is a big party.
