The Village Walk Senior Living complex is set to open in Patchogue

|

Update: The public tours will not begin until Monday, Dec. 11.

Original post: Suffolk County’s first downtown assisted living complex will be opening to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

And move-in day for Village Walk Senior Living residents is Jan. 11.

“This is not a nursing home; this is like a cruise ship on land,” said Village Walk’s director of community relations, Linda Cody. “But it’s for people who might need some assistance yet want their own space, and want to age in place.”

The city-like structure, which reaches five stories at some points, features a bistro, pub, restaurant, cinema space, internet café, fitness facilities, an art studio and more.

There’s even an observation deck with views of Fire Island and the Great South Bay.

The complex consists of 128 apartments, which includes 46 units for those with alzheimer’s and other dementia diseases.

They also offer 24/7 nursing care, which Cody said isn’t typical.

Once fully staffed, Village Walk will be bringing 70 full- and part-time employees to Main Street.

Cody is a lifelong Patchogue resident happy to introduce and help integrate the residents of Village Walk in the community at large, she said.

“I grew up in this community and feel very honored and blessed to be a part of this project, just seeing how these new residents and their families can take advantage of everything our village has to offer,” she said.

And the reaction from potential residents?

“They’re very amazed and very impressed,” she said. “And we haven’t even been able to show it.”
