The Winston, a rustic space for private events, is unveiled in Sayville

It’s not a restaurant. Nor is it a catering hall.

It’s The Winston.

Owners Satin and Lace Widrow, who are sisters, are billing this Sayville storefront at 249 W. Main Street as a rustic space where anyone can host a shower, christening, engagement party, or other private affair.

All the host has to do is bring food and drink — and their imagination.

“It’s really just a beautiful backdrop where you can create your own Pinterest-style, picture-perfect day,” Satin said.

The sisters are already in touch with local restaurant owners who are equally excited and looking to team up.

And they plan on getting in touch with more.

“Restaurants are already drawing up catering options for us,” Lace said. “Many are telling us they get a lot of people looking to host rehearsal dinners or whatever, but they just can’t fit in these large parties along with other diners on a peak weekend night or day.”

Shutting down restaurants for private parties is typically out of the question for smaller places.

“Now they can cater their food in our space, instead of simply turning all these people away and disappointing them,” Lace added.

For those wondering, there is no kitchen at The Winston. A properly licensed caterer of the host’s choosing would bring in their own food to serve on chaffing dishes, or however they want to present.

Lace especially likes the idea that people who rent the space for a day will have flexibility when it comes to bringing in outside decor and vendors for artisan desserts, for example, or flowers, balloon arches and more.

They also both envision renting the space out for pop-up shops and photo shoots.

(For those curious about the name, Winston is the family’s beloved Old English bulldog, who’s pictured below.)

The sisters, who also own the popular BLOW•chic hair and makeup studios in Bay Shore and Mineola, built The Winston to offer a space for anyone looking to mark a special occasion without financial burdens.

“When we were planning events leading up to my sister’s wedding, we had a lot of trouble finding spots that were right for us, for the number of people we had, but still looked beautiful,” Lace said. “There were limited options to create the vision we wanted, and that were within budget for our smallish group on a weekend.

“So we built this.”

The Main Street business also received a warm welcome from the president of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce, Eileen Tyznar.

Tyznar said the chamber “is happy to welcome a new small business that offers something so unique.”

“Having a location that can host your small, private events or gatherings and yet give you the flexibility of hand-tailoring your event is welcomed in today’s busy world,” she said. “The Winston will help you be able to enjoy your event without the stress that comes along with hosting and finding the perfect spot.”
