They’ll strut en masse at the 2026 ‘Mrs. Roper Walk’ in Point Lookout

|

A beloved sitcom character is once again bringing Long Islanders together for a good cause.

The Roper Walk PLO, inspired by the flamboyant landlord from the hit sitcom “Three’s Company,” returns to Point Lookout on Saturday, May 30, with a bar crawl-style fundraiser supporting the Hewlett House Cancer Center.

The character, played by Audrey Lindley, became a pop culture icon in the 1970s and ’80s for her bold look — think red wigs, flowing muumuus, chunky jewelry and bright lipstick.

The concept of “Roper Walks” began in 2013, when New Orleans resident Bud Moore organized a group dressed as Mrs. Roper for the Southern Decadence Parade.

The idea quickly caught on nationwide, with thousands joining in on the costume-filled fun.

Locally, the Point Lookout version is led by Nicole Koenig, a 50-year-old single mom and breast cancer survivor, who launched the event three years ago to give back.

“The first walk we donated $2k for Surf for All,” Koenig said.

The second year was held just for fun — but shortly after, Koenig was diagnosed with breast cancer, giving the event an even deeper meaning.

This year’s walk kicks off at 4 p.m. at Heneghan’s, with stops at Reynolds & Vine, the Point Lookout Clam Bar and then Buoy Bar, wrapping up around 7 p.m.

The $20 entry fee will benefit the Hewlett House Cancer Center.

“I am so thankful to have partnered with them (Hewlett House) on this event,” Koenig said. “Among other things, they provide wigs for women who have lost their hair … how perfect is that for a wig-themed event bringing women together?”

Participants are encouraged to dress the part, but creativity is welcome.

“The walk is open to anyone and everyone: women, kids, men in Helen Roper drag, Stanley outfits,” Koenig said, referencing Mrs. Roper’s husband from the show.

The event will also feature raffles, door prizes and plenty of laughs along the way.
