This Babylon resident is living her dream as the new owner of Babylon CrossFit

|

It’s been a dream come true for Babylon’s Trish Evangelista.

This October, the 31-year-old combined her passion for fitness and sports with her lifelong goal of owning a business when she took over Babylon CrossFit at 158 East Main Street.

Evangelista, a Massapequa Park native, fell in love with CrossFit after she spent four years playing soccer at Farmingdale State College.

When she graduated, Evangelista became a youth soccer coach but she felt something was missing.

“I didn’t know how to maintain my fitness level after college,” she said.

That was until one of her athlete’s parents recommended CrossFit.

“I tried it and got hooked right away,” she told GreaterBabylon.

She soon became a certified instructor at local CrossFit gyms, also known as “boxes.”

This fall, she said everything fell into her lap when Babylon CrossFit went up for sale. She’s been enjoying the takeover ever since.

“The first four months have been unreal, to say the least,” said Evangelista.

Since the relaunch, Evangelista upgraded Babylon CrossFit with new equipment, renovated bathrooms, and recently added a new water filtration system.

“We want to help eliminate plastic water bottles,” she said.

Babylon CrossFit also added more class hours.

“We’re one of the only boxes on Long Island with an 8 p.m.,” said Evangelista.

This month, the Babylon resident is also transforming the facility’s office into a children’s area filled with furniture, toys, and TVs.

On Wednesday, local village officials stopped by to congratulate Evangelista on her work with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“On behalf of the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce, we want to officially welcome Trish and Babylon CrossFit community to the village,” said Kelly Peckholdt, head of the chamber. “Trish has proven herself to be an active member of the community and a valuable chamber member.”
