A new food truck is serving up a messy classic with a side of big plans in Patchogue.
Sloppy Joes, located by the back entrance of South Shore Iron, is the latest venture from owner Joe Gannone, who says the idea came together after seeing the success of a previous food truck at the site.
“I know it’s a great space,” Gannone said. “It was really good for the people from the gym too — it was like an addition.”
He teamed up with a group of hospitality pros to create a fun, focused concept centered around Sloppy Joes, plus homemade chicken fingers, fries, tots and rotating specials. Healthier options are also in the works.
“It’s really, really tasty. It’s different,” Gannone said of the signature sandwich.
Currently open Wednesday through Sunday, the truck is expected to expand hours — with an eye on late-night crowds.
“Eventually, we can stay open till 1, 2 o’clock,” he said.
The space also features seating and a turf area, with plans to add music, games and more to create a casual hangout spot.
“We want to make it a cool little destination,” Gannone said.
And if all goes as planned, this may just be the first of many. “We’re going to be putting a bunch of these everywhere,” he said.
