Thursday Night Live — Wantagh’s summer street festival series — has been canceled for Thursday, July 31.
The Wantagh Chamber of Commerce announced the decision Thursday morning, citing forecasts calling for heavy rain and thunderstorms across Long Island.
“We understand that many of you were looking forward to this event, and we share your disappointment,” the chamber posted on social media. “The safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities, and we believe this decision is in everyone’s best interest.”
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected in the Wantagh area after 5 p.m. Thursday, with an 80 percent chance of rain and the potential for localized flooding.
The next Thursday Night Live is scheduled for Aug. 14.
