Trader Joe’s opens its 3rd Suffolk County location in Miller Place

|

The long anticipated Trader Joe’s in Miller Place officially opened its doors on Thursday, marking the grocery chain’s third location in Suffolk County and eighth on Long Island.

The 9,200-square-foot store, located at 300 Route 25A across from the North County Plaza and next door to Walgreen’s, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:55 a.m., just moments before the store opened for business for the first time at 9 a.m.

Store Captain Jimmy Mohrman and his crew welcomed customers to the new neighborhood grocery store, which will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., a Trader Joe’s spokesperson said.

The Miller Place location has hired more than 50 new crew members, with additional staff transferred from nearby Trader Joe’s stores.

The new store sits in the middle of a bustling Miller Place shopping corridor. Nearby development (on the other side of Walgreen’s) includes a new True Value Hardware store under construction, that will eventually replace the True Value about a mile east on Route 25A.

The two new businesses, along with the existing Walgreens and McDonald’s, will be connected via an interior access road as part of the development plan approved by Brookhaven Town officials. The project received the green light from the Brookhaven Town Board in December, and construction has progressed steadily since land was cleared in 2025.

Trader Joe’s Miller Place will feature the chain’s signature offerings, including private-label pantry staples, organic produce, snacks, and frozen meals.
