Traffic Alert: Nighttime Sunrise Highway closures between Carleton and Connetquot avenues

|

This is a message published in its entirety from the state Department of Transportation:

Motorists are advised that eastbound NY Route 27/Sunrise Highway between Carleton Avenue, Exit 46 and Connetquot Avenue will be closed nightly beginning Thursday, October 6, 2016 in the Town of Islip, Suffolk County.  Each night Sunday through Thursday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. all eastbound mainline NY 27 travel lanes will be closed and traffic will be detoured to the NY 27 south service road.  These nightly closures are expected to be in effect for about three weeks, weather permitting and are in addition to off-peak mid day closures. They are needed to perform preventive maintenance on the Connetquot Avenue Bridge over NY 27/Sunrise Highway to help assure its long term integrity.

Motorists are being warned in advance of the closing via roadside electronic signs but are encouraged to use alternate routes or they may experience delays.  Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone and obey the posted work zone speed limit. As with most road projects, this work is weather dependent and may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.  For 24/7 up-to-date traffic and travel information, motorists should call 511 or visit www.511NY.org.  In addition, travel information can be obtained from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at www.INFORMNY.com .

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists while this important bridge maintenance work is undertaken to help safeguard Long Island motorists.
