From New York State Department of Transportation |
The New York State Department of Transportation announced today a full closure of State Route 110 over State Route 109 this weekend in the Town of Babylon, as crews install new ultra-high performance concrete joints at the bridge piers.
Beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 until 6 a.m. on Monday, September 23, Route 110 will be closed in both directions at the bridge.
Southbound traffic will be detoured to exit onto westbound Route 109 and turn left onto Main Street southbound to return to Route 110. Northbound traffic will exit onto eastbound Route 109, turn left onto northbound Suffolk County Route 3/Wellwood Avenue, and turn left onto westbound Conklin Street to return to Route 110. Detour signs and electronic variable message signs will direct motorists.
The Department appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local community while this project is undertaken.
As with most road and bridge projects, work may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
Motorists are urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones. To learn more about the Move Over law and what we’re doing to keep workers and motorists safe in highway construction zones, visit www.ny.gov/workzonesafety.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
