Travel Alerts: Overnight closures on Route 109 at Sunrise Highway

|

From the DOT:

Motorists should expect overnight closures beginning on Tuesday, May 29 on the State Route 109 bridge over State Route 27 (Sunrise Highway) in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County.

There will be a full closure of northbound Route 109 between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. at the above location.  Traffic from Route 109 will be detoured onto Sunrise Highway South Service Road to Hubbards Path then east on Sunrise Highway North Service Road and re-enter Route 109.

Portable variable message signs have been placed in the area to advise motorists.  Detour signs will also be posted to direct drivers.

These closures are expected to last approximately one week. Single lane closures will begin following completion of the overnight closures.  Single lane closures are currently in place for southbound Route 109.   As with most road projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

This is part of a $5.3 million New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) project to perform reinforcement repairs and enhancements on three bridges within Suffolk County.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.

For real-time travel information, motorists should call 511 or visit www.511NY.org or the mobile site at m.511ny.org, New York State’s official traffic and travel information source.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local community while this bridge maintenance project is undertaken to help assure the continued protection of all motorists.
