Tropical Smoothie Café opens in Rocky Point and stirs big business

|

That was fast.

Only months after construction began and “Coming soon” signs were prominently posted on Route 25A in Rocky Point, the hamlet’s new Tropical Smoothie Café opened this weekend.

And judging by the big crowds inside the shop on Saturday, the community was pretty thirsty for its arrival.

There are now more than 20 Tropical Smoothie Café locations across Long Island, with more expected in Shirley and Bayside. The Rocky Point one is the first for new franchisee Christopher Bonanno.

Working behind the counter on Saturday, Bonanno described the opening as a “busy and crazy” affair.

Cars entered the drive-true, as young adults clammored inside to order flatbreads, quesadillas, wraps, salads, sandwiches — and smoothies to the bejesus.

Employees dashed between the fruit and blender stations, stirring up Açai Berry Boosts, Sunrise Sunsets, Island Greens and a bevy of other fruit and vegetable filled smoothie titles.

Some of the newest food offerings chain-wide customers available at the Rocky Point shop include the smoky and avocado grilled cheeses. There’s also the new beach club, Thai chicken and supergreen Caesar salads.

Bonanno said the establishment is “a change of pace” not only for him, but for the community where he expects it to be a hit.

“We’re glad to be in Rocky Point to serve the community,” he said.
