Two boats collided near the Bay Shore Marina before midnight Saturday

|

Two boats collided about a quarter-mile south of Bay Shore Marina in the Great South Bay around 11:15 p.m. Saturday night, rescue officials said. The two damaged boats were able to motor back to their respective marinas on their own, and only four minor injuries were reported.

After the crash, one boat went back to the Bay Shore Marina, where the Bay Shore Fire Department and the Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance responded. Both of its passengers were treated at the scene, then transported by ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with minor injuries.

The second boat involved, which was carrying five passengers, headed back to the East Islip Marina (boat pictured) after the crash. The East Islip Fire Department and Exchange Ambulance responded to that marina.

Two people aboard that vessel also reported minor injuries.

Both were treated at the scene, then transported by ambulance to South Shore University Hospital.

The Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau, along with coordinators from the Suffolk County Department of Fire Rescue & Emergency Services also responded to both locations.
