Two motorcyclists die in early morning crashes in Centereach and Shoreham

Both riders lost control of their motorcycles within 35 minutes of each other shortly afternight Saturday morning

Two motorcyclists were killed in single-vehicle crashes on Long Island roadways early Saturday morning, Suffolk Police said.

The first crash happened about 12:30 a.m. on Nesconset Highway, east of Nicolls Road, in Centereach. Herson Almonte, 42, of Port Jefferson Station, was riding a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle east when he lost control and struck the center divider, police said.

Almonte was pronounced dead shortly later at Stony Brook University Hospital.

About 35 minutes later, a second motorcyclist was killed in Shoreham. Daniel Austin, 23, of Mastic Beach, was riding a 2024 Honda motorcycle southbound on William Floyd Parkway at approximately 1:05 a.m. when he lost control and was ejected. He died at the scene.

Both motorcycles were impounded for safety checks as detectives continue to investigate, police said.
