Uninsured? Free breast screenings May 13 at Good Sam’s Breast Imaging Center

|

Uninsured women from 40 to 64 years old and living anywhere in Suffolk are eligible for free mammography screenings on Saturday, May 13, with appointments starting at 7:30 a.m.

Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is hosting the screening day at the Women’s Imaging Center, located at 735 Montauk Highway in West Islip, in conjunction with Cancer Services Program of Suffolk County and Babylon Town Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon.

“This is a free service that is available to women without health insurance who might otherwise not have access to cancer screenings, said Bonnie Edsall,  the radiation oncology nurse manager at Good Samaritan’s Breast Health Center.

“By signing up with the Cancer Services Program, for which there is also no fee, they may be eligible for other life-saving screenings as well,” Edsall added.

Breast Surgeons from the Good Samaritan Hospital Breast Leadership Program will perform a clinical breast exam and write a prescription for the mammogram and Cancer Services will enroll patients in their program, according to the hospital.

There are no income guidelines for eligibility. Women must be uninsured residents of Suffolk County. A photo identification is required at the time of the exam.
